Laguna Keepers 2012 Event Calendar

Laguna Keepers are the Foundation's habitat restoration volunteers. Each month, in partnership with the City of Santa Rosa, we meet to give the Laguna a little hands-on love! This can mean fence removal, willow sprigging, weed control, or planting, depending on the site and the time of year.

Keepers meet at locations throughout the Laguna, but workdays are always on a Saturday, 9am - noon. Be sure to wear shoes & clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Only heavy rain cancels. Snacks are on us, but do bring gloves, water, and friend! For more information contact John Guardino at 527.9277 x108 or email: john@lagunafoundation.org

January 21: Tree-A-Thon (Rain date: January 28)
This is a fundraising event that we sure hope Laguna Keepers will support by signing up as volunteer fundraisers! Contact nancy@lagunafoundation.org to sign up, or visit our Tree-A-Thon web page. If you don’t want to fundraise, but want to participate in the event as a team leader, contact: john@lagunafoundation.org.

February 11: Laguna Uplands
Our annual Valentine’s Day visit to give the Uplands some TLC. A new task this year: wood chips on the path. We love wood chips! Meet at the end of Palm Ave. in Sebastopol, just south of Palm Drive Hospital.

March 10: Meadowlark Field
The earliest plantings at this location were planted in 2008 and are ready to fly solo. Help us remove old irrigation tubing and plant protection hardware. The plants look fantastic. Meet at the Chevron station just east of the Laguna at 5640 Highway 12, Sebastopol.

April 14: Native Plant Demonstration Garden & Joint Wetlands
Celebrate Earth Day by exploring the diversity of California native species and planting at the Joint Wetlands. Meet at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, 4300 Llano Road, Santa Rosa; follow signs to the “Admin” building.

May 12: Delta Pond
Admit it: it’s fun to install squishy, wiggly DriWater! Plants appreciate it too. Enter on the southwest side of Santa Rosa creek at Willowside Rd. (just north of Summerfield Waldorf school, 655 Willowside Road, Santa Rosa) and drive 1/2 mile to parking.

Laguna Keepers take a break June-August, during the driest time of the year, and resume in September.
